There are few vineyard settings in the Similkameen Valley as dramatic as S’milka Vista. The 40-acre estate sits on a west-facing mountainside just outside Cawston, overlooking five bends of the Similkameen River with Snowy Mountain and the Okanagan Range as the backdrop. It’s the kind of view that confirms you’re somewhere genuinely special.
The vineyard, originally planted in 2008 and thoughtfully farmed by the current team since 2019, sits on exceptionally rocky soils derived from limestone, granite, schist, and volcanic influences — complex, varied, and barely hospitable to anything other than grapevines and sagebrush. The west-facing aspect captures the full radiant heat of the valley’s long summer days, while the intense valley winds keep the fruit pristine and minimize the need for inputs. The result is flawlessly ripe fruit at harvest with the saline quality characteristic of the Similkameen.
Winemaking here is a study in restraint — picking decisions driven by balance between sugar ripeness and acidity, fruit hand-harvested always, ferments worked by hand, and gravity and time used as the two primary tools. The wines are vibrant, fresh, and built for the table.
