Daydream and Drift Your Cares Away

Float your cares away! Folks have been merrily floating the Similkameen River daydreaming and drifting their way along the river for generations, making it one of the most popular activities in our valley. Grab an inner tube or even a blow-up air mattress and plunge right in! You can float for hours between Bromley Rock and the Red Bridge or the Red Bridge and Cawston. Enjoy the serenity of drifting through slow running currents, feeling your toes start to wrinkle in the crystal clear river.

Floating the Day Away

The cool running waters of the Similkameen will carry you away quickly, so make sure you’re ready for the ride. There’s no better way to spend a sizzling summer day than slathered in sunscreen laying back, floating the river, and watching the valley slip by. Ranchlands dotted with grazing cattle line the river between the Red Bridge and Keremeos’ Pine Park. It’s the perfect way to watch for eagles and osprey taking flight, fishing for their next meal.

There are no river outfitters here, so you’ll need to arrange to be picked up at your final destination. It makes the logistics a little more complicated, but around these parts, we think the best things in life are worth a little extra effort.

Enter the Similkameen River from the Bridge of Dreams in Princeton and float, kayak or canoe all the way to Bromley Rock or on to Cawston. You can also spend a lazy day kayaking or canoeing on the Tulameen River or kayaking between Coalmont and Princeton. There are some tour companies in the area that will unload upriver above the Township of Tulameen.
