What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient practice supported by modern medicine. It consists of using thin, sterile needles to stimulate points that engage the body’s own healing mechanisms. Acupuncture is used to relieve pain, promote healing after injury or surgery, address digestive, respiratory, cardiovascular, and reproductive health, support weight loss, smoking cessation and addictions treatment, enhance immunity and support overall health. Your TCM practitioner may also utilize herbal and dietary support. Acupuncture and TCM can be used as a standalone therapy or alongside other forms of care.
What is community acupuncture?
Community acupuncture is intended to be as accessible as possible to all people. Multiple people receive acupuncture at the same time and pay on a sliding-scale basis. Treatments take place in a relaxed setting while the patient is fully clothed. Because more people can be seen, we can charge less. Increased affordability also allows for more visits, resulting in better, longer-lasting results.
What is a sliding scale?
This clinic charges a sliding scale of $20 – $40 per session. (with a one-time $10 paperwork fee for your first visit.) That means you decide what you can afford. There is never any need to prove your income.
Community acupuncture clinics use a sliding scale because we want everyone to be able to receive acupuncture treatment, and we want you to be able to come in as often as you need to. We know that the key to success with acupuncture is frequent, consistent treatment.
OSCA is proud to be part of a growing movement of acupuncture clinics dedicated to serving our communities by offering high-quality care at affordable rates.
Is it covered?
Acupuncture is covered by most medical plans, and by MSP for low income residents of BC. You will be given a receipt you can submit to your insurance provider or MSP (if applicable) for reimbursement. We can also bill directly to MSP with no additional fee.
